MacArthur BART Transit Village

The MacArthur BART Transit Village will include public and semi-public gathering spaces interwoven within a diverse and complementary mixed-use development, including commercial services, dining, entertainment, affordable and market-rate housing and numerous outdoor gathering places. This transit-oriented development wll decrease the dependency on the automobile and emphasize the creation of a safe and secure neighborhood. The project urban design elements will extend into surrounding neighborhoods, encouraging neighbors and commuters to communicate and interact with one another. This is made possible through the intersection of passages and gathering places that connect the private neighborhoods with comfortable, engaging public spaces. Public places include the retail-oriented Village Drive, podium gardens and BART Entry plaza area. Public art elements at the BART Plaza include a large mural and multi-colored LED light sculptures under the freeway. The Project Team included MVE Architects, Bridge Housing, Shea Properties and Aegis.
