MD Fotheringham, Landscape Architects provided landscape planning and site design consultant services for the Windmill Restoration & Gardens Project at the West End of Golden Gate Park. Campaign Director, Don Propstra, invited our firm to join the design team in 1999. This project is an exciting opportunity to assist the Campaign in restoring historic landscape features in Golden Gate Park, and to assist the City and County of San Francisco Department of Recreation and Parks in implementing their long-term master plan for the Park. We prepared the conceptual landscape plans and diagrams that describe the extent of the project improvements. Our scope included providing character sketches of the proposed landscape structure and gardens surrounding and connecting the north and south windmills. We also assisted the Campaign in making presentations to the Recreation and Parks Commission and other public hearings required for approvals. Installation of the restored South Windmill was completed in 2012.
